In a concerning turn of events, two women were victims of separate but potentially related daytime muggings in the West Town neighborhood on Sunday. The first incident occurred near the intersection of Kinzie and Green when a group of at least three individuals attacked a woman and stole her purse around 10:40 a.m. Witnesses observed the perpetrators fleeing the scene in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee with a distinctive loud muffler.

Shortly after, a Chicago Police Department license plate reader identified the same Jeep in the 1500 block of West Division Street around 12:20 p.m. Just ten minutes later, another woman fell victim to a robbery about half a mile away. The second victim, a 42-year-old woman, was walking on the sidewalk in the 1000 block of North Paulina Street when a thin Black male wearing a black hoodie and gray shirt pushed her to the ground and stole her purse.

Robberies have been a persistent issue in West Town neighborhoods throughout the pandemic, with the area experiencing multiple waves of robbery sprees over the past three years. However, there has been a noticeable decrease in robbery cases this year, with reports indicating a decrease of at least 40% in the two police districts responsible for patrolling the area.

CWBChicago, a trusted source for public safety reporting, was founded in 2013 by residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the accuracy of information provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. While their coverage has expanded to include neighborhoods like Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, and Uptown, their commitment to delivering original reporting with thorough context and detail remains steadfast.
