NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin made headlines among college football fans when he secured his third victory of the season and 57th of his career at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, MI. His win at the heart of Michigan, a traditional rival of Ohio State on the football field, added an extra layer of excitement to the race.

After emerging victorious, Hamlin stepped out of his car and proudly displayed the O-H sign to the stands not once, but twice, showing his support for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Cameras captured the moment as Hamlin celebrated next to his No. 11 Yahoo Toyota Camry, forming the familiar OSU letters with his arms.

Unsurprisingly, Ohio State fans quickly embraced Hamlin as one of their own, with one fan declaring him as their new favorite driver. Another fan praised him as a “stud,” while others rallied with a resounding “Go Bucks!” and “hell yeah brother.” However, not everyone was pleased with Hamlin’s celebration, as some Michigan fans took jabs at him for supporting Ohio State.

When asked about his allegiance to the Buckeyes, Hamlin explained that he never attended college and didn’t have a natural school to support. Instead, his close friends who were die-hard Ohio State fans influenced his choice. Attending a game with his friends and witnessing their passion for the team entertained him and led to his support for the Buckeyes.

Hamlin’s support for Ohio State extends beyond just gestures at races. He previously attended a playoff-semifinal win over Texas and even sported an OSU tee while chanting along with the fans. With Ohio State set to face the Texas Longhorns in the 2025 season opener, Hamlin’s loyalty to the Buckeyes remains strong.

In conclusion, Denny Hamlin’s unexpected support for the Ohio State Buckeyes has endeared him to fans of the team, while also sparking friendly banter with Michigan supporters. His unique connection to the Buckeyes through his friends showcases the power of sports fandom to transcend boundaries and bring people together.
