The streets of Los Angeles have become a battleground as anti-ICE protests continue to rage, prompting law enforcement to deploy a variety of riot control tactics. From tear gas to impact rounds, the police have been using a range of less-lethal ammunition to disperse hostile crowds and maintain order.

Tear gas, also known as CS gas, has been a common tool used by both the LAPD and California Highway Patrol to scatter protesters. Although banned for use in warfare, tear gas is frequently employed by police for riot control purposes. Hand-held canisters have been used to release the gas, causing protesters to run in an attempt to escape the effects.

Impact rounds, or baton rounds, have also been utilized by law enforcement to control the crowds. These less-lethal projectiles are fired from specialized launchers or modified shotguns and can cause blunt force injuries and lacerations. In an effort to reduce the risk of serious harm, lighter rubberized foam projectiles have been used instead of traditional rubber bullets.

Pepper balls have been another tool in the police arsenal, designed to burst on impact and release pepper spray for crowd control. These projectiles can cause a burning sensation on the skin, coughing, and eye irritation, making them effective in dispersing protesters.

Batons, made of wood, metal, or polycarbonate, have been used by officers to strike demonstrators and make arrests. These traditional tools of law enforcement have been employed to maintain control and restore order in the midst of the ongoing protests.

Flash bangs, also known as stun grenades, have been used to disorient targets with a blinding flash and deafening boom. These devices, commonly used by both the military and police, are intended to create confusion and allow law enforcement to gain the upper hand in volatile situations.

As tensions continue to escalate in Los Angeles over Trump’s ‘mass deportation agenda,’ law enforcement officials are employing a range of riot control tactics to manage the protests. From tear gas and impact rounds to pepper balls and batons, the police are working to restore peace and ensure public safety in the face of mounting unrest.
