The upcoming Google Pixel 10 is rumored to come with a feature that many iPhone users have been longing for – Qi2 charging. This next-generation wireless charging technology, pioneered by Apple with its MagSafe standard, offers faster charging speeds and a more convenient experience thanks to its magnetized fastening system.

While the Qi2 standard has been available for current Android phones, only a few devices like the HMD Skyline have included it so far. Flagship phones like the OnePlus 13 have had to rely on optional cases for Qi2 support. This might explain why Google is making Qi2 support a key feature of the Pixel 10.

According to reports, Google will brand the Qi2 standard as Pixelsnap. The company is planning to release three new accessories under this branding – Pixelsnap Charger, Pixelsnap Charger with Stand, and Pixelsnap Ring Stand. With Google also rumored to introduce a Hub Mode for its phones, the Pixelsnap wireless charging standard could potentially turn the Pixel 10 into a smart display, similar to Apple’s Standby Mode with MagSafe charging stands.

Retail listings for the Pixelsnap accessories suggest that Google’s wireless charging standard will be Qi 2.2 and MPP (Magnetic Power Profile). The Pixelsnap technology will be powered by a ConvenientPower CPS4041 controller chip, capable of delivering a theoretical maximum wireless charging speed of 60W. However, it remains to be seen how much of this power Google will utilize, considering that the previous Pixel 9 Pro XL had lower charging speeds.

Overall, the addition of Qi2 charging with Pixelsnap branding could make the Google Pixel 10 a more attractive option for users looking for a fast and convenient wireless charging experience. Keep an eye out for the official announcement to see how Google leverages this new technology in its upcoming flagship device.
