Nan Goldin and the Leslie-Lohman Museum of Art (LLMA) have joined forces to combat the relentless attacks on transgender, intersex, and gender non-conforming populations by President Donald Trump. In response to harmful rhetoric and executive orders targeting these communities, the two-week online print sale was launched to raise funds for organizations dedicated to supporting self-determined gender identity and expression.

The sale features intimate portraits by Goldin, including “Jimmy Paulette at Wigstock” (1991) and “Thora with teddy bear” (2020). Both images capture moments in New York City, showcasing the beauty and resilience of individuals within the LGBTQ+ community. Priced at $250 each, the prints are available for purchase until June 26, with all proceeds going to the LLMA, the Sylvia Rivera Law Project (SRLP), and the Trans Income Project (TIP).

The current political climate has seen a rise in anti-trans legislation, with over 100 bills passing in 2025 alone. The recent House bill that seeks to prohibit Medicaid coverage for gender-affirming care poses a significant threat to the well-being of trans individuals. Organizations like TIP, which provide essential support to trans people, are at risk of losing vital funding for their services.

Natalie Rupp, Executive Director of TIP, emphasized the importance of initiatives like the print sale in securing the safety and rights of trans individuals in Louisiana. With the looming threat to trans healthcare, it is crucial to support grassroots organizations that are on the frontlines of advocacy and assistance for the LGBTQ+ community.

This collaborative effort between Nan Goldin, LLMA, and the featured organizations aims to combat transphobia and discrimination through art and activism. By purchasing a print or supporting the cause, individuals can contribute to the fight for equality and justice for all gender identities.
