Christoffer Relander’s latest collection in the “We Are Nature” series delves into the realm of childhood innocence and wonder. Through a unique blend of human portraits and natural elements like leaves, landscapes, and even a cat, the Finnish photographer creates ethereal compositions that explore the interconnectedness between humans and the environment.

Using multiple exposures to layer different components, Relander crafts each image entirely in camera. The resulting photos feature human silhouettes intertwined with lush surroundings, with subtle hints of facial features peeking through the foliage. Branches may mimic a spine, and leaves may resemble hair, blurring the lines between human and nature.

The most recent addition to the ongoing series, “Vol. VII,” focuses on Relander’s children. He reflects on the inspiration behind these images, stating, “Watching them grow and discover the world has been a mirror to my past, drawing me back to memories of my childhood. Through them, I am reminded of the purity and raw connection to nature we often lose as adults.” This shift in perspective has brought a renewed energy to the project, allowing Relander to delve deeper into themes of innocence, curiosity, and the natural world.
