Jon Stewart Slams ABC for Firing Terry Moran Over Trump Criticism
Jon Stewart is speaking out against ABC’s decision to terminate Terry Moran‘s employment after the journalist criticized President Donald Trump‘s administration in a now-deleted social media post.
In a recent episode of his Daily Show podcast, “The Weekly Show”, Stewart expressed his disagreement with ABC’s choice to not renew Moran’s contract, calling it “stupid” and criticizing the network as a “joke.”
Stewart pointed out the hypocrisy of ABC’s decision, highlighting the bias in media coverage across different networks. He emphasized how Fox News often takes statements out of context and allows vicious attacks on Democratic politicians, yet ABC holds itself to a different standard.
ABC News announced on Tuesday that they would not be renewing Moran’s contract due to his violation of the network’s policies with his controversial tweet about Trump and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller.
A spokesperson for ABC stated, “At ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness, and professionalism, and we remain committed to delivering straightforward, trusted journalism.”
Moran’s tweet referred to Miller and Trump as “world-class haters,” leading to his suspension and eventual termination from the network. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt condemned Moran’s remarks as “unhinged and unacceptable.”
Moran, who had been with ABC News since 1997, served as the senior national correspondent before his departure.
Stewart’s criticism of ABC’s handling of the situation sheds light on the ongoing debate surrounding media bias and journalistic integrity in today’s political climate.
