Charlie Hunnam has been announced as the star of “Monster” Season 3 on Netflix, where he will portray the notorious serial killer Ed Gein. The news was revealed by series co-creator Ryan Murphy during a promotional event in Los Angeles for the upcoming Season 2, which delves into the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents. The first season of the anthology series focused on the chilling story of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.

Ed Gein, much like Dahmer, gained notoriety in the 1950s when it was discovered that he not only committed multiple murders but also desecrated graves near his home in Wisconsin, using human remains to create various household items and clothing. Gein’s heinous acts inspired iconic characters in pop culture, such as Norman Bates in “Psycho” and Buffalo Bill in “Silence of the Lambs.”

This new role in “Monster” adds to Hunnam’s impressive list of TV projects, including the upcoming series “Criminal” on Amazon. The actor is best known for his role as Jackson “Jax” Teller in the hit FX series “Sons of Anarchy,” along with his recent appearance in the Apple adaptation of “Shantaram.” Hunnam’s diverse credits also include “Pacific Rim,” “The Gentlemen,” and “The Lost City of Z.”

“Monster” premiered on Netflix in 2022 to critical acclaim, with Evan Peters and Niecy Nash delivering standout performances as Dahmer and Glenda Cleveland, respectively. The show has garnered accolades, with Peters winning a Golden Globe and Nash receiving an Emmy for their roles. Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on September 21, with Nicholas Alexander Chavez and Cooper Koch portraying the Menendez brothers, and Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny as their parents.

The series is co-created and executive produced by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan, alongside a talented team of producers and directors. With its gripping storytelling and stellar cast, “Monster” continues to captivate audiences and solidify its place as one of Netflix’s most-watched shows. Hunnam’s portrayal of Ed Gein is sure to bring a chilling and captivating performance to the screen, adding another layer of intrigue to this gripping anthology series.
