Knife-Wielding Attacker Strikes Officers at Manhattan Courthouse
In a shocking incident at the Manhattan Criminal Court, a knife-wielding man launched a brutal attack on officers, leaving two injured in the neck and face. The suspect, identified as Jonathan Wohl, 37, from Queens, was captured on surveillance footage calmly approaching the metal detectors before suddenly attacking the court officers.
The video shows Wohl lunging at the officers with a knife, stabbing them repeatedly before being tackled to the ground by other officers near the entrance of the courthouse. Despite the sudden and violent nature of the attack, law enforcement sources believe it was a targeted assault, as Wohl did not have a scheduled hearing at the courthouse.
Several court officers quickly intervened, subduing the assailant, disarming him, and taking him into custody. The injured officers were promptly hospitalized and are reported to be in stable condition following the attack.
Wohl, with a history of 18 prior arrests and three open criminal cases, has been known to harass court officers at the courthouse. The motive behind the attack remains unclear, but officials are investigating the incident further to determine the cause of the assault.
The swift response of the court officers in apprehending the attacker prevented further harm and ensured the safety of those present at the courthouse. The incident serves as a reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officers in the line of duty and the importance of their vigilance and quick action in such dangerous situations.
