It was a day filled with love and joy as political strategist and author Huma Abedin tied the knot with investor and philanthropist Alex Soros at their home in Water Mill, NY. The couple’s journey to marriage began at a party hosted by James and Nicky Hilton Rothschild in October 2023, where they first met and soon started dating. In June 2024, Alex proposed to Huma with a stunning emerald cut diamond ring, marking the beginning of their journey towards marriage.
Speaking to Vogue, Huma shared the romantic story of Alex’s proposal, which took her by surprise. “Alex bought the ring in the morning and proposed by our dining table that same evening. It was a total surprise and a beautiful one,” she said. The couple later celebrated their engagement with a trip to Italy, where Alex proposed once again on the balcony of their hotel room.
Originally planning to elope, Huma and Alex’s wedding plans took a turn after an engagement party hosted by Huma’s longtime boss and friend, Hillary Clinton. “It was an unexpectedly wonderful journey,” Huma said. “We got engaged with no plans to have a wedding, but once Hillary and Anna Wintour suggested a date, we knew it was meant to be.”
Despite not initially planning for a big wedding, Huma found the planning process to be enjoyable, thanks to the support of Hillary and Anna. “Our first meeting was surreal, with Hillary and Anna asking me what I wanted for the day. Making decisions was easy because I knew what I liked,” she shared.
