Former Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) was seen running errands with his wife Nadine, a fellow convicted felon, in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. This comes just hours before he is set to report to a federal prison in Pennsylvania to serve an 11-year sentence for bribery and corruption.
The couple was found guilty of participating in a bribery and corruption scheme. Menendez, 71, will be serving his time at the Federal Correctional Institution Schuylkill in Minersville, Pa.
The facility houses over 1,200 inmates and is a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Menendez’s home in New Jersey. Menendez was convicted last July for trading favors for cash, gold bars, and even a Mercedes-Benz convertible.
Nadine, 58, was also found guilty of federal corruption charges in April for her involvement in the scheme. During a raid on their home, federal agents discovered gold bars and a significant amount of cash hidden throughout the house.
Menendez was accused of doing favors for Egypt and Qatar in exchange for bribes from intermediaries. Nadine, who is yet to be sentenced, could face a lengthy prison term as well.
Despite maintaining his innocence, Menendez has resigned from the Senate and is reportedly seeking a pardon from President Trump before heading to prison.
