Following heavy rainfall in Central Otago last week, boil water notices are still in effect for Ranfurly, Omakau, and Ophir due to the impact on water quality. Naseby residents are also urged to conserve water as the situation is being monitored closely.

The Central Otago District Council provided an update, stating that the source water for the towns’ supplies became too dirty to treat effectively. However, there has been some improvement, with Ranfurly’s water source returning to normal clarity levels and Omakau/Ophir also showing signs of improvement. Despite this, the boil water notices remain in place as a precautionary measure.

Although the Naseby treatment plant is not fully operational, water quality is slowly getting better. Water tankers have been deployed to Ranfurly, Omakau, and Ophir to assist residents during this time.

Stay tuned for further updates on the situation in Central Otago.
