MC Mong, a prominent South Korean Hip-Hop artist and co-founder of THE BOYZ’s agency, One Hundred, recently announced his resignation from his role due to personal reasons. Known by his real name Shin Dong-hyun, MC Mong has made a name for himself as a recording artist, producer, radio personality, actor, and television personality. His career took off in the 2000s with his appearance in the sitcom series “Nonstop” and as a cast member on the popular variety show “2 Days & 1 Night” from 2007 to 2010. Throughout his career, he released several albums including “180 Degrees,” “His Story,” “The Way I Am,” “Chanel 8,” “Flower 9,” and more.
In 2010, MC Mong faced controversy for evading South Korea’s mandatory military enlistment by extracting his healthy teeth in exchange for exemption. This led to a four-year hiatus from the industry, after which he made a comeback and continued releasing music. However, his appearances in variety shows and films declined after his return. In 2023, he co-founded One Hundred with Cha Ga-won, chairman of Piak Group, and served as the general producer of the K-pop girl group Bad Villain.
Meanwhile, One Hundred, the agency representing THE BOYZ, made headlines on June 18 with the announcement of member Ju Haknyeon’s departure from both the agency and the group due to personal matters. While the agency did not disclose specific details, a report from South Korean media outlet News1 alleged that Ju Haknyeon and an acquaintance were spotted at a bar in Tokyo, reportedly meeting with a Japanese adult video actress. The report claimed that the two had solicited prostitution services from the actress.
Following the news, One Hundred released a statement stating that they had suspended Ju Haknyeon’s activities and terminated his contract with THE BOYZ after verifying the facts. The agency emphasized that the decision was made to protect the members and the group. Ju Haknyeon, however, denied the allegations in a handwritten letter posted on Instagram, stating that the meeting was simply a social gathering and that he did not engage in any illegal activities.
The controversy surrounding Ju Haknyeon’s departure has sparked debates among fans and netizens regarding the truth behind the rumors. As the situation unfolds, the K-pop industry continues to face scrutiny and speculation.
