In the realm of climate activism, the dissolution of the organization known as Last Generation (LG) in early 2025 marked a turning point in the movement. As the group grappled with internal fractures, external challenges, and a shifting political landscape, a process of strategic soul-searching led to the formation of two new projects: WiK and NG.

WiK, or We in the Climate Crisis, emerged as a response to the need for direct action and a departure from traditional protest tactics. The group’s focus on reclaiming agency through implementing climate measures directly, even if it involves actions like deflating SUV tires, reflects a bold new strategy. In an environment of increasing repression, WiK aims to maintain public interest by utilizing unexpected methods and adapting tactics based on local needs.

On the other hand, NG, or New Generation, remains faithful to LG’s original model of momentum-driven organizing and nonviolent civil disobedience. However, NG’s vision extends beyond climate action to address broader systemic issues perpetuated by right-wing and oligarchic forces. Central to NG’s strategy is the concept of a Parliament of the People, where citizen-led assemblies would draft laws for a just society.

Despite their differences in approach, WiK and NG both emphasize the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for immediate action. While WiK leans towards direct community action and property sabotage as a legitimate means of protest, NG prioritizes reform through citizen assemblies and nonviolent civil disobedience.

As these two projects navigate their divergent paths, they represent complementary responses to the shared emergency of climate change and political turmoil. While their methods may vary, their message remains consistent: the time for action is now. With a world to win and nothing to lose, the future of climate activism is in the hands of those willing to take a stand.
