The anticipation for the 2026 Venice Biennale is palpable, as artists from all over the United States eagerly await the opportunity to showcase their work at the prestigious event. The application process for proposals for the US Pavilion, which is centered around the theme of “American Values,” is currently open through the US State Department until July 30. Many talented and conscientious artists are vying for the chance to represent the nation on an international stage.

However, amidst the sea of deserving candidates, there is one controversial figure who is seeking to make a splash at the Biennale for all the wrong reasons. Curtis Yarvin, a far-right provocateur and software developer, has unveiled a proposed project titled “Venice Biennale Coup” in a YouTube video. The project, which aims to bring disgrace to the art world, has raised eyebrows and sparked outrage within the artistic community.

In the video, Yarvin is seen discussing his vision for the project with Dutch Egyptian artist Tarik Sadouma, who is collaborating on the controversial endeavor. The proposed project, titled “SALON DES DEPLORABLES,” is described as a hardcore right-wing film that centers around the Titian painting “The Rape of Europa.” Yarvin’s grandiose plans include incorporating fascist imagery, militarized violence, and giant statues in a misguided attempt to appear transgressive and provocative.

Despite Yarvin’s attempts to shock and awe, the project has been met with widespread condemnation for its offensive and juvenile nature. The video has been likened to a bizarre mix of World War Z and Michael Jackson’s HIStory tour trailer, with a heavy dose of fascist posturing and gratuitous shock value. Many have called for Yarvin to be held accountable for his tasteless and inflammatory proposal.

In conclusion, while the Venice Biennale is a celebration of art and culture, it is important to remember the values of respect, integrity, and artistic merit. Curtis Yarvin’s misguided attempt to hijack the event for his own self-serving agenda only serves to tarnish the reputation of the art world. Let us hope that true talent and creativity will prevail at the 2026 Venice Biennale, leaving no room for divisive and destructive antics.
