A massive wildfire near Interstate 70 in Garfield County forced the closure of the highway in both directions on Friday night, according to state and local authorities.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of I-70 are shut down between exit 90 for Rifle and exit 75 for Parachute, as confirmed by the Colorado Department of Transportation. Additionally, U.S. 6 is also closed due to the fire.
The Garfield County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuation orders for the Rulison area around 6:30 p.m., located halfway between Rifle and Parachute.
This is an evolving situation and will be updated as new information becomes available.
