OpenAI Pulls Video Promoting CEO Sam Altman and Jony Ive Friendship
OpenAI has recently removed a video from its website and YouTube page that showcased the friendship between CEO Sam Altman and renowned Apple designer Jony Ive. The video also highlighted OpenAI’s $6.5 billion acquisition of Ive and Altman’s device startup, io.
Speculation arose as to the reason behind the video’s removal. Some questioned if there were issues with the acquisition or Ive’s role in leading design work at OpenAI. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the acquisition deal is still on track and has not been dissolved. The removal of the video was due to a restraining order issued by a judge regarding the use of the io name, prompting OpenAI to remove all materials associated with it.
Additionally, a report from Bloomberg Law revealed that AI device manufacturer IYO has filed a trademark lawsuit against OpenAI. The judge overseeing the case has shown openness to IYO’s argument that OpenAI’s promotional video could be causing confusion among consumers.
JS has reached out to OpenAI for a statement regarding the situation. As of now, the video can still be viewed on X.
