A body discovered on Sunday morning in a lake in northern Colorado is believed to be a missing individual from Larimer County, as per the sheriff’s office.
Watson Lake was closed temporarily on Sunday while crews worked to retrieve the body, which has not been publicly identified by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office, according to an official press release from the sheriff’s office. The lake has since reopened.
The cause of death of the victim is still under investigation, as stated by sheriff’s officials in the release.
Although the body has not been confirmed, Larimer County investigators suspect it may be linked to the missing person case of Larry Baker, a Fort Collins resident, according to agency spokesperson Ali Adams.
Baker’s vehicle was located parked at the Watson Lake State Wildlife Area, situated northwest of Fort Collins near Bellvue, after he departed from his residence on June 16 and did not return, according to sheriff’s officials.
Baker, an 80-year-old passionate angler, was reported missing the day after he left.
Over 60 individuals—including tracking dogs, drones, ground teams, and divers—searched the wildlife area for several days but were unsuccessful in locating him.
Prior statements from sheriff’s officials indicated no signs of foul play in Baker’s disappearance.
The Larimer County Coroner’s Office did not provide any comments when reached on Sunday evening.
