Martin Kove, best known for his role as John Kreese in the classic film “The Karate Kid” and the popular TV series “Cobra Kai,” found himself in hot water at a fan convention recently. According to a report from the Puyallup Police Department, Kove was asked to leave the Summer Con event in Puyallup, Wash., after allegedly biting his co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim during a VIP meet-and-greet.
The incident reportedly took place on Sunday, where both Kove and Hannah-Kim were scheduled to appear and interact with fans. Hannah-Kim claimed that Kove unexpectedly bit her arm after she tapped him on the shoulder to greet him. The bite was so forceful that it nearly drew blood, causing Hannah-Kim to cry out in pain. Kove then allegedly proceeded to kiss the area where he had bitten her, which only added to the discomfort of the situation.
Upon being confronted by Hannah-Kim and her husband about his actions, Kove reportedly became defensive and lashed out at them. He claimed that he was simply trying to be humorous and that such playful interactions were common on the set of “Cobra Kai.” Despite Hannah-Kim choosing not to press charges, she requested that a report be filed to document the incident.
As a result, Kove was asked to leave the convention by the authorities present at the event. He was advised to refrain from engaging in similar behavior in the future. Kove, who is 78 years old, has been a staple in the entertainment industry for decades, with his portrayal of the ruthless karate sensei John Kreese earning him a dedicated fan base. Hannah-Kim, on the other hand, is a relative newcomer to the scene, having joined the cast of “Cobra Kai” in later seasons as the formidable South Korean sensei Kim Da-Eun.
The incident at the fan convention has sparked a conversation about boundaries and appropriate behavior, especially in a professional setting. It serves as a reminder that even in the world of entertainment, respect and consent are paramount. Moving forward, it is crucial for all individuals to uphold these values and ensure a safe and inclusive environment for everyone involved.
