Chaos erupted at Coney Island Beach on Monday as 16 teenagers were arrested following a brawl at the packed shore, as per video footage and law enforcement sources.
The altercation began around 6:30 p.m. on the beach and along the historic Riegelmann Boardwalk near West 15th Street before spreading to nearby streets, according to police and sources.
The commotion, occurring as hundreds of teens flocked to the popular summer spot amidst sweltering heat in New York City, led to a significant deployment of police officers.
The cause of the fight is unknown, and there were no immediate reports of injuries.
Video footage shows multiple teens in handcuffs being escorted by NYPD officers as a large group of teenagers gathers on the sand.
It’s unclear if the teens being arrested in the video were involved in the altercation.
Dozens of officers formed a human barricade as they attempted to restore order to the chaotic scene.
Multiple pursuits ensued, and a female paramedic was accidentally bumped into as a group of officers chased a suspect, as shown in the video.
Officers caught up with the suspect and brought him down next to park benches and bushes, as depicted in the footage.
The teenage chaos extended from the boardwalk to Brighton Beach, nearly a mile to the east, as temperatures soared into the 90s across the city.
In another video obtained by The Post, a young man was pursued by officers to a location under the boardwalk and tackled.
It seemed like the teenager was cooperating when four officers were seen kneeling on top of him, but suddenly one of the officers used a Taser on the suspect’s legs.
A teenager in the crowd questioned, “What are you doing?” as the suspect writhed in the sand.
Police did not provide a statement regarding the use of a Taser on the teen in Brighton Beach.
Charges are pending for all those arrested, and the incident is currently under investigation.
Earlier this month, several altercations occurred during a high school senior skip day party at Jones Beach State Park, leading to police intervention with a helicopter and a temporary closure of the beach.
A large group of youths from various high schools in Nassau County and Queens congregated on the waterfront in Wantagh, Long Island, resulting in fights breaking out in different areas.
