New Zealand’s rising tennis star, Lulu Sun, caused a major upset at the Eastbourne grass-court tournament in England by defeating top-seed Daria Kasatkina in a thrilling first-round match. Sun, known for her exceptional grass-court skills, battled through challenging wind conditions to secure a hard-fought victory in three sets. She will now face off against Anna Blinkova of Russia in the next round.

The match saw Sun and Kasatkina trading momentum, with the scoreline constantly shifting. Despite Kasatkina’s comeback from a 4-0 deficit in the first set, Sun managed to stay composed and clinch the crucial points. The 24-year-old Kiwi showcased her resilience by regaining control in the decisive third set, ultimately emerging victorious with a scoreline of 7-5, 2-6, 6-3.

Sun, currently ranked World No. 46, expressed her love for playing on grass courts, highlighting the unique challenges and opportunities they provide. Her success at Eastbourne serves as a confidence boost as she gears up for the upcoming Wimbledon Championship, where she reached the quarter-finals last year.

In other news, doubles specialist Erin Routliffe recently reunited with partner Gaby Dabrowski at a WTA tournament in Germany. Despite being the top seeds, the duo faced an early exit in their first-round match. Dabrowski, who had been sidelined due to injury, returned to competition alongside Routliffe, who had previously partnered with notable players like Victoria Azarenka and Lyudmyla Kichenok in recent tournaments.
