Authorities in Bristol, Connecticut had to come to the rescue of a man who found himself stuck in a chimney at a local parks building. The man had ventured into the chimney in an attempt to retrieve his dog from a locked bathroom, only to get trapped in the process.

Police were alerted to the situation on a Sunday morning after a burglary complaint was made at Rockwell Park. Firefighters had to intervene, ultimately freeing the man from the chimney by dismantling parts of the structure. Unfortunately, this resulted in significant damage estimated at $5,000 to $10,000.

Following the rescue, the Bristol man was taken into custody and charged with burglary, trespassing, and criminal mischief. He was later released on bond with a court date set for July 7. Efforts to reach out to the man for comment were unsuccessful as contact information was no longer valid.

The incident occurred at Mrs. Rockwell’s Pavilion, a building within the park that is equipped with automated locks for the bathrooms. According to Erica Benoit, the community engagement coordinator for Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth, and Community Services, the man likely got stuck due to the doors locking at 10 p.m. each night.

Details surrounding how the dog ended up in the bathroom and the duration of time the man spent in the chimney remain unclear. Fortunately, the dog emerged unharmed from the ordeal. Benoit emphasized the importance of communication in such situations, noting that the incident could have been avoided if authorities had been contacted earlier.
