Local Colorado Cider Makers Shine at National Competition

When it comes to exceptional cider, look no further than the local Colorado cider makers who recently dominated a national competition. At the 8th annual Cidercraft Awards, Colorado cideries made a big impression, with two local outfits taking home top honors.

Snow Capped Cider in Cedaredge swept the competition with a total of 22 medals, including five platinum awards, while Fenceline Cider in Mancos also secured two accolades. The judges at the Cidercraft Awards blind-taste the ciders and award medals based on quality, with platinum, double gold, gold, and silver being the top categories.

Colorado’s dry ciders stood out, as both Snow Capped and Fenceline dominated the “high tannin (dry)” category. Snow Capped’s Kingston Black cider took home a platinum medal, followed by Fenceline’s Kingston Black (2023) with a double gold. Snow Capped also excelled in the “modern (sweet)” category, showcasing their versatility with a range of award-winning recipes.

Owner and head cidermaker of Snow Capped Cider, Kari Williams, expressed her pride in the recognition, stating, “We make cider to express the story of our historic orchards and Colorado, and this incredible recognition tells us we’re doing something right.”

In addition to their success at the Cidercraft Awards, Snow Capped Cider was also recognized at the prestigious Great American Beer Festival in 2024. With six judges’ picks from the Cidercraft Awards and one for Fenceline, these Colorado cider makers continue to make waves in the industry.
