Android users may soon have access to a feature that has long been exclusive to iPhone users, thanks to Google’s upcoming App Cast feature within Google Play Services.
According to Android Authority, this new feature will allow users to stream apps that are installed on other hardware, similar to Apple’s Handoff feature that enables seamless switching between iOS and MacOS devices.
What will Android Handoff be capable of?
Upon diving into the code for this App Cast feature, references to Google’s own Handoff initiative and multi-device syncing have been found. This suggests that users will be able to clear notifications on one device and have it reflect on all other devices linked to their Google account.
Additionally, the feature will support media and file sharing, as well as remote access to apps installed on the user’s primary device.

Android Handoff availability
Since the code for this feature is being integrated into Google Play Services, it is expected to be a widespread Android feature rather than exclusive to Pixel devices. This inclusivity is particularly beneficial for Android users who own devices from various brands.
It is worth noting that Apple introduced Handoff in 2014, making it a long-standing selling point for Apple products. Despite the delayed implementation, the upcoming Android Handoff feature is anticipated to enhance the user experience for Android users.
