A Chicago Man Extradited from Mexico Faces Charges in Triple Murder Case

After a long legal battle, Vilmer Alcaraz, a 32-year-old Chicago man accused of killing three laborers in a dispute over a concrete job payment in November 2023, has been extradited from Mexico to face trial in Chicago. Judge Shauna Boliker ordered Alcaraz to be detained pending trial on three counts of first-degree murder.

The incident took place on November 10, 2023, when Chicago police responded to a ShotSpotter alert and 911 calls, finding three men—Fernando Najero-Patino, Carlos Lopez-Orozco, and Juan Marrufo-Romero—dead from multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle in the 8300 block of South Pulaski.

According to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office, the victims were hired to do concrete work at Alcaraz’s sister’s home and her neighbor’s property. A notebook found at the scene listed Alcaraz’s sister’s address and an approximate payment of $2,300.

Surveillance footage showed Alcaraz arriving at his sister’s home in a van from his job at a senior care center, just hours before the shooting. Text messages sent to Alcaraz’s phone inquiring about payment for the job were also discovered.

Video evidence allegedly captured Alcaraz leaving the scene of the crime shortly before the murders, then approaching the victims’ vehicle and opening fire. He was seen returning to his sister’s home after the incident and leaving in an SUV believed to be driven by his neighbor.

Despite possessing a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) card and owning multiple guns, none of Alcaraz’s firearms matched the caliber of the murder weapon. After the shooting, he fled to Mexico but was eventually tracked down and extradited back to Chicago.

During his extradition, Alcaraz reportedly made admissions regarding the murders, although the specifics of his statements were not disclosed. His neighbor, who was allegedly involved in the events surrounding the crime, has not cooperated with the investigation and obtained legal representation.

As the case unfolds, authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the tragic triple murder in November 2023. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
