Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge Sales Could Cancel Follow-Up Model

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge made a grand entrance after being teased at Unpacked in January and finally launched in May. The anticipation and excitement surrounding the release were palpable, but unfortunately, the reception of the Galaxy S25 Edge hasn’t met expectations. According to The Elec, the performance of the super slim phone has been deemed “below expectations” just a month after its release.

The lackluster demand for the Galaxy S25 Edge has led Samsung to significantly reduce production, a move that is uncommon so soon after a product launch. This decrease in production could potentially have repercussions on the upcoming Galaxy S26 family line-up.

Initially, there were speculations that the Galaxy S26 Edge would replace the Plus model, resulting in a streamlined 2026 series with three phones. However, given the underwhelming sales of the S25 Edge, Samsung may need to reassess its strategy.

There is a possibility that the Galaxy S26 Edge could be scrapped entirely, and Samsung may decide not to release a successor. While this decision may already be in the works, it might be premature to make such a call at this stage.

One of the factors contributing to the poor demand for the Galaxy S25 Edge could be the timing of its launch. Unlike the other Galaxy S25 models that were released in February, the S25 Edge was shrouded in mystery and kept fans waiting for an extended period.

Another factor could be a misjudgment of market preferences. Despite its impressive slim design at just 5.8mm thickness and 163g weight, the S25 Edge sacrifices battery life, fast charging capabilities, and only features two rear cameras.

Looking ahead, Apple is gearing up to launch a rival in the form of the iPhone 17 Air in September, which could potentially shake up the competition. If Samsung can implement silicone carbon battery technology and introduce a telephoto lens in the S26 Edge, it may address some of the shortcomings of the current model.

At present, the outlook for the Galaxy S26 Edge appears uncertain. For those who have been holding off on purchasing a new Samsung phone in 2025, the upcoming unveiling of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 at Unpacked, expected to coincide with Amazon Prime Day on 9 July, may present more appealing options.
