From enjoying “Miller Time” to facing jail time, a shocking incident unfolded on a Connecticut highway involving a reckless driver who admitted to chugging a beer while pulled over on the side of the road.

The driver in question, Carlos Gallegos-Loja, a 23-year-old resident of Brockton, Massachusetts, was initially spotted by state police after he had parked his Chevrolet Traverse on the side of I-84 West in West Hartford around 1 a.m. on a Sunday. All occupants of the SUV were outside the vehicle at the time, but as the police approached, the car sped off, leaving the scene.

A different state trooper later caught sight of the SUV traveling at a staggering speed of 122 mph in a 65 mph zone and swerving between lanes several miles away. Upon pulling over the vehicle, Gallegos-Loja displayed clear signs of impairment, such as slow movements and speech, leading to a field sobriety test which he failed.

Further inspection of the SUV revealed open alcohol containers, with Gallegos-Loja confessing to the police that he had initially pulled over to chug a beer before continuing on his journey. As a result, he was promptly arrested and faces a slew of charges including reckless driving, driving under the influence, operating a vehicle without insurance, failure to maintain lane discipline on a highway, improper parking, driving without a license, and drinking while driving.

After being released on a $1,000 bond, Gallegos-Loja is scheduled to appear in Hartford Superior Court on July 15 to answer to the charges brought against him. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of irresponsible and reckless behavior on the road, emphasizing the importance of adhering to traffic laws and regulations for the safety of all motorists.
