Minnesota Man, 85, Charged with Murder After Allegedly Stabbing Wife of 66 Years

An elderly man from Minnesota found himself in a tragic situation when he allegedly stabbed his wife of over six decades to death with a kitchen knife. Rodney Andersen, 85, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder for the brutal attack against his wife, Janet Louise Andersen, 83, in their home in Annandale.

According to court documents, police arrived at the scene to find Janet lying in the kitchen, heavily bleeding from multiple stab wounds to her abdomen. Rodney admitted to officers that he had stabbed his wife during a heated argument that took place earlier that morning.

Andersen told police that he and his wife had a big argument, leading him to grab a knife from the kitchen and stab her. He called the authorities himself and waited for them outside the house when they arrived.

Responding officers found Andersen shaking on the steps of his home, with a bloody knife discovered in the kitchen sink. Despite his actions, Andersen expressed uncertainty about his wife’s condition, stating that he was not sure if she was still alive.

The couple, married since 1958, had a history of continuous arguments, according to Andersen. He confessed to stabbing his wife at least once in the middle of her abdomen but was unsure about the force he used.

Despite paramedics finding Janet’s body still warm, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Rodney Andersen now faces up to 40 years in prison if convicted of second-degree murder. Currently held on $1 million bail at Wright County Jail, his next court date is scheduled for Thursday.
