Unihertz, a Chinese manufacturer of compact Android phones, has just announced the Titan 2, a spiritual successor to the BlackBerry Passport. This unique device, reminiscent of the keyboard-packing smartphones of yesteryear, is currently available through a Kickstarter campaign that has already surpassed its funding goal by a significant margin.

The Titan 2 boasts some impressive specs, including a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chip, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. It features a backlit physical QWERTY keyboard with customizable shortcuts for increased productivity. The device is not compact, measuring 137.8 x 88.7 x 10.8mm and weighing 235g, but it packs a powerful 5,050mAh battery with 33W charging.

One of the standout features of the Titan 2 is its dual-display setup. In addition to a square 4.5-inch 1,440 x 1,440 primary display, there is a second 2-inch 410 x 502 display on the back of the device for notifications and selfie viewing. The camera module includes a 50MP main camera, an 8MP telephoto lens, and a 32MP front-facing camera.

Connectivity options on the Titan 2 include 5G, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, dual-band GPS, an IR emitter, and an FM radio. The device also features a fingerprint sensor and two programmable buttons on the side. It will run on Android 15.

The Titan 2 is expected to start mass production in September, with shipping scheduled to begin in October. The retail price is projected to be around $399, but early backers can secure a discounted pre-order at $269.

Overall, the Titan 2 offers a unique blend of nostalgia and modern technology, catering to a niche market of users who still appreciate the convenience of a physical keyboard on their smartphone. With its innovative design and robust features, the Titan 2 is sure to appeal to fans of the classic BlackBerry devices and those looking for a distinctive smartphone experience.
