Enrique Socarras has made a name for himself in the culinary world, having led kitchens in a variety of restaurants such as Sushi Den in Denver and Centro Mexican Cuisine in Boulder. However, he is most recognized for his work at Cuba Cuba, a restaurant he co-founded with his sister in 2001 after relocating from Miami, where they grew up.

During his time at Cuba Cuba, located in Denver’s Golden Triangle neighborhood, Socarras introduced diners to traditional Cuban dishes such as ropa vieja, Cuban-style black beans and rice, and tostones (fried plantains).

Although Socarras departed from Cuba Cuba nearly ten years ago, he is returning to his Cuban roots with the opening of Jama Miami Cuban Food + Drink on August 1st. The new restaurant will be located in Freedom Street Social, a food hall in Arvada, where Socarras will showcase the cooking techniques passed down from his parents and grandparents.

While Socarras has received recognition for his culinary skills over the past 25 years, his focus for Jama Miami is not on accolades but on serving delicious food that nourishes the soul.

On the menu at Jama Miami, patrons can expect classic Cuban dishes like empanadas, Cubano sandwiches, sweet plantains, and croquetas de jamon. Socarras also plans to infuse his creativity into the menu, offering unique twists on traditional favorites such as a Cubano with crispy pork belly.

Additionally, Jama Miami will feature sandwiches like the Croqueta Preparada, Pan Con Bistec, and Frita Cubana, showcasing the diversity of Cuban cuisine.

Prior to the grand opening of Jama Miami, Socarras has been testing his recipes at a ghost kitchen, where customers have been enjoying his creations through delivery services and pick-up orders.

Once Jama Miami opens its doors at Freedom Street Social, Socarras intends to continue offering takeout and delivery services, ensuring that his delicious Cuban fare reaches a wider audience.

The term “jama” is a slang word for food, reflecting Socarras’ commitment to celebrating his heritage through his culinary creations. In addition to a menu of sandwiches and permanent dishes, he plans to introduce daily specials to keep the menu fresh and exciting.

According to Socarras, Cuban cuisine is inviting and suitable for all palates. He encourages diners to step out of their comfort zones and experience the flavors of Cuban culture through his dishes.
