OpenAI Executive Takes Action in Response to Meta Poaching Senior Researchers

In the wake of Meta successfully luring away a number of its senior researchers, an OpenAI executive has reassured team members that company leadership is actively addressing the situation.

Chief Research Officer Mark Chen expressed his concern in a Slack memo obtained by Wired, likening the situation to a break-in and theft of valuable assets. He emphasized that OpenAI leadership, including CEO Sam Altman, has been diligently working to address the issue.

Chen stated, “We have not been standing idly by. We have been working around the clock to engage with those who have received offers from Meta. We are being more proactive than ever, revisiting compensation packages, and exploring innovative ways to recognize and reward top talent.”

Reports have surfaced indicating that eight researchers have left OpenAI for Meta in recent weeks. Altman even mentioned on a podcast that Meta was offering substantial signing bonuses, a claim that Meta executives have disputed internally.
