Apple Scores Box Office Hit with “F1”

Apple has hit a home run with its latest movie release, “F1.”

While Apple TV+ has seen success with critically-acclaimed films like “Coda,” the company has struggled to find success at the box office in the past. However, “F1” is changing that narrative, currently dominating the theaters and set to earn $55.6 million domestically this weekend. With global ticket sales reaching $144 million, “F1” is on track to become Apple’s highest-grossing film, surpassing the record set by “Napoleon.”

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on “Top Gun: Maverick,” “F1” follows a familiar formula of an older veteran working with a young upstart in the world of Formula One racing. The movie’s realistic cinematography and engaging storyline have resonated with audiences, propelling it to the number one spot in theaters.

The success of “F1” can be attributed in part to the rising popularity of Formula One racing in the U.S., fueled by Netflix’s docuseries “Drive to Survive.” Filmed at actual Formula One races and with driver Lewis Hamilton on board as a producer, “F1” has captured the excitement and drama of the sport.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has been vocal about the company’s involvement in the film, highlighting their unique contributions like camera technology and cross-promotion efforts. While the movie’s reported budget exceeds $200 million, it remains to be seen if “F1” will turn a profit in theaters or serve as a marketing tool for Apple TV+.

Despite the uncertainties, “F1” has proven to be a turning point for Apple in the world of cinema, showcasing their ability to produce box office hits alongside their successful streaming platform.
