A recent firearms trafficking investigation has shed light on a major operation involving four adults and a 17-year-old boy. The group faces charges for gunrunning and other felonies after allegedly selling a total of 38 guns and machine gun conversion devices to undercover agents in Chicago.

The investigation began after authorities discovered that Justin Anderson, a 19-year-old from Indianapolis, was advertising firearms for sale on social media. An undercover agent made contact with Anderson on May 6, leading to the sale of three firearms, including two Glocks and a Mini Draco 7.62 with a 30-round magazine.

Subsequent deals took place in parking lots and at a Walmart, where Anderson and his associates sold a variety of weapons, including a Taurus 9mm, multiple Glocks with extended magazines, and a TRUMP-47 multi-caliber firearm with a double drum barrel magazine. The group also sold guns equipped with binary triggers, laser sights, and drum magazines.

The operation culminated in a large-scale transaction at a motel in Lansing on June 27. The defendants arrived in a Jeep Cherokee and sold investigators 19 rifles and handguns along with three switches for $19,000. Anderson brought a suitcase containing firearms, while Powell and Wells presented additional weapons. The juvenile also sold guns to the agents.

Law enforcement moved in to arrest the suspects after the deal was completed. Anderson was taken into custody immediately, while Powell, the juvenile, and Wells attempted to flee but were apprehended. Williams, who was driving the Jeep, tried to escape and collided with law enforcement vehicles before being arrested. Another firearm was found in the vehicle during the arrests.

The defendants now face charges related to the illegal trafficking of firearms and machine gun conversion devices. The joint federal and state investigation has highlighted the dangers of such activities and the importance of cracking down on gun trafficking operations to ensure public safety.
