An Ohio grandmother shocked the community this week when she confessed to intentionally shooting her sleeping 6-month-old granddaughter in the face, showing no remorse for her actions. Mia Desiree Harris, 43, went on a violent rampage in December 2023, using a 9-milimeter pistol to fire shots at the baby’s wooden bedroom door before breaking it down and shooting the baby in the eye.

During the disturbing incident, Harris also physically assaulted other family members, including punching one person in the face and attempting to shoot another in the head at close range, narrowly missing. Court records revealed the extent of Harris’ violent outburst, painting a grim picture of the events that transpired in the family home in Liberty Township.

According to Butler County Sheriff Richard Jones, the altercation began as a heated argument within the family, escalating when Harris retrieved a firearm. Detective Daniel Turner testified that Harris callously remarked that the baby was not her grandchild and showed no remorse when questioned about her actions, bluntly stating “sorry, not sorry.”

Further investigation into the incident revealed Harris’ deep-seated resentment towards her family. Turner testified that Harris harbored beliefs that her family members were plotting to take her money and leave, a notion she was unwilling to entertain. Harris expressed her desire to “crucify” her family, showcasing a disturbing level of animosity and aggression towards her loved ones.

Harris ultimately pleaded guilty to a felony assault charge related to the shooting, with additional charges stemming from the assaults on other family members being dismissed as part of the plea deal. Despite the traumatic ordeal, baby Myra miraculously survived the attack and is reportedly recovering and exceeding expectations in her progress.

The Butler County Sheriff’s Office responded to the family home in the early hours of the morning after receiving a distress call from Myra’s mother, who reported the shooting. Myra was found in critical condition with a gunshot wound to her face and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment, undergoing two surgeries to address her injuries.

Harris attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended shortly after, thanks to witness identification. Sheriff Jones condemned the heinous act, labeling it as one of the most vile criminal acts he had ever encountered, particularly noting the familial relationship between the perpetrator and the victim.

Currently incarcerated at the Butler County Jail, Harris faces a potential 15-year prison sentence when she is sentenced later this month. The community remains stunned by the shocking events that unfolded, grappling with the aftermath of such a senseless and tragic act of violence.
