A well-known social media influencer who rose to fame by sharing his idyllic Gulf Coast lifestyle with his wife online has been sentenced to five years in prison for child pornography. Joshua David Stapleton, 39, from Georgia, received a 20-year sentence, with five years to be served in jail and another 15 years on probation after pleading guilty to 20 counts of sexual exploitation of children.
Stapleton and his wife operate the popular āGulf Coast Stapletonsā social media account, which has amassed over 86,000 followers and more than a million likes on platforms like TikTok and Instagram. Their content typically showcases their daily activities, such as working out, enjoying meals, and embarking on vacations.
However, Stapleton’s online persona came crashing down when investigators discovered that between 2018 and 2020, he had downloaded images of prepubescent children in sexually abusive situations. Initially facing 15 counts of child pornography possession, Stapleton was later indicted on 40 counts of sexual exploitation of children. Ultimately, he entered a non-negotiable plea deal and pleaded guilty to 20 counts.
Despite the shocking revelations, Stapleton’s wife, Brittani Morris Stapleton, has been vocal in defending her husband and dispelling what she refers to as āmisinformationā circulating online. The couple tied the knot in 2023, after Stapleton had been charged, and Brittani maintains that she was fully aware of the charges against him from the beginning.
Addressing accusations of projecting a āfake lifeā on social media, Brittani asserts that their content accurately reflects their lives and that they continue to be happy and united. She vehemently denies any falsehoods in their online presence and stands by their authenticity.
Currently, Stapleton is incarcerated at the Bartow County Sheriffās Office Jail, serving his five-year sentence.
