Marcus Mariota’s NFL journey has been a rollercoaster ride since he was drafted second overall by the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 NFL draft. After stints with the Raiders, Falcons, and Eagles, Mariota found himself signing a one-year deal with the Washington Commanders in March 2024.

As a veteran quarterback, Mariota took on the role of backup to Jayden Daniels on the Commanders’ depth chart, making appearances in three games throughout the season. Despite the team making it to the playoffs, they fell short in the NFC title game against the Eagles. However, Mariota’s performance caught the eye of the Commanders’ management, leading him to sign another one-year deal to remain as Daniels’ backup for the 2025 season.

In an interview with PFT’s Mike Florio, Mariota expressed his contentment with staying with the Washington Commanders, citing the team’s adamant desire to have him back for another year as a key factor in his decision. He also mentioned his admiration for head coach Dan Quinn, offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, and the team’s overall chemistry as reasons for his return.

Mariota’s dedication to the team and his willingness to support Daniels were evident in his statement, emphasizing his readiness to step in whenever needed while also ensuring that Daniels performs to the best of his ability on the field.

Throughout his 10 seasons in the NFL, Mariota has started 74 out of the 93 games he’s played, amassing 16,184 passing yards and 97 touchdowns. Despite facing challenges and transitioning into a backup role in recent years, Mariota remains a valuable asset to any team he plays for.

Before his NFL career, Mariota made a name for himself as the quarterback for the Oregon Ducks in college. His standout performances led the team to the Pac-12 title and a national championship appearance in 2014, where he was awarded the prestigious Heisman Trophy.

While Mariota’s success at the collegiate level was undeniable, his transition to the professional ranks has posed challenges. However, his resilience and dedication to the game have kept him in the league for over a decade, showcasing his passion and commitment to the sport.

In conclusion, Marcus Mariota’s journey from college standout to NFL veteran is a testament to his perseverance and love for the game. As he continues his career with the Washington Commanders, fans can expect to see his unwavering dedication and support for his team, making him a valuable asset both on and off the field.
