Lindsey Vonn, the renowned American alpine ski racer, recently shared her heartbreak over the loss of her beloved dog, Lucy, ahead of the upcoming Winter Olympics in Milan. Lucy, a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was Vonn’s faithful companion for nine years before tragically succumbing to kidney failure. In a touching tribute on Instagram, Vonn expressed her deep sorrow at Lucy’s passing and reminisced about the countless adventures they shared together.

Despite the emotional setback, Vonn is determined to compete in the Winter Olympics next year. The skiing champion made a remarkable comeback to the sport after a five-year hiatus due to injuries, including undergoing surgery for a partial knee replacement. Her return to competitive skiing culminated in a podium finish at the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in the super-G event. Vonn’s illustrious career boasts three Olympic medals and two gold medals at the World Championships, solidifying her status as one of the sport’s most decorated athletes.

In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Vonn expressed the difficulty of facing the upcoming Winter Olympics without Lucy by her side. She fondly recalled Lucy’s presence at the last Olympics and hinted at a tribute to honor her beloved companion during the Games. Vonn has had a history of sharing her life with various pets, including a boxer named Leo and Bear, a chow retriever, showcasing her deep love for animals.

Vonn also took to social media to pen a heartfelt message for Lucy, reminiscing about their shared adventures and the unconditional love Lucy brought into her life. The ski champion expressed her belief that Lucy is now in a better place alongside her late mother and other departed pets, providing comfort in the midst of her grief. Vonn also shared that Leo, her boxer dog, is currently in remission and enjoying good health at the age of 12.
