Abigail Spencer is set to star alongside Josh Charles in the highly anticipated Fox medical comedy “Best Medicine.” The one-hour show, which is based on the popular British series “Doc Martin,” was announced in May and is scheduled to begin production this summer in upstate New York.
The series follows the story of Martin Best (played by Josh Charles), a talented surgeon who decides to leave his successful career in Boston to become a general practitioner in a charming East Coast fishing village where he spent his summers as a child. However, Martin’s straightforward and sometimes rude bedside manner doesn’t sit well with the quirky and needy locals, especially with local school teacher Louisa Glasson, played by Abigail Spencer. Despite the initial challenges, the tenacious spirit of the small village residents may be just what the doctor needs.
In the original British series, the role of Louisa Glasson was portrayed by Caroline Catz throughout all 10 seasons. Abigail Spencer, known for her versatile roles in shows like “Suits,” “Rectify,” “Mad Men,” “True Detective,” “Timeless,” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” brings her talent and experience to the character of Louisa.
Apart from her television work, Spencer has also appeared in various films, including “This Is Where I Leave You,” “Oz the Great and Powerful,” and “Cowboys & Aliens.” She recently completed filming for “Clean Hands,” where she stars alongside Zach Braff and Esther McGregor. Spencer is represented by UTA, Untitled, and Hansen Jacobsen.
The production of “Best Medicine” is in good hands with executive producers Ben Silverman, Howard T. Owens, Rodney Ferrell, Liz Tuccillo, Mark Crowdy, and Philippa Braithwaite. The original format of the show, from All3Media International, was brought to the U.S. by Propagate Content. Fox Entertainment Studios will produce the series, with Fox Entertainment owning the rights. Worldwide distribution is handled by Fox Entertainment Global.
Fans of Abigail Spencer and Josh Charles are eagerly anticipating the premiere of “Best Medicine,” which promises to deliver a delightful blend of comedy and heartwarming moments in a picturesque setting. Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new show.
