Moonvalley, a Los Angeles-based AI video generation startup, is changing the game when it comes to creating movies. The company recently made its “3D-aware” model, Marey, available to the public. This model offers a unique “hybrid” approach that gives filmmakers more control compared to traditional text-to-video models.

Initially launched in beta in March, Marey is now offered as a monthly credits-based subscription. Users can purchase 100 credits for $14.99, 250 credits for $34.99, or 1,000 credits for $149.99. Additionally, the base model will be accessible on third-party platforms such as Fal.AI and Adobe. With Marey, users can generate video clips up to five seconds long, aligning with industry standards.

Moonvalley’s co-founders, who previously worked on Google’s video generation model, have trained Marey entirely on openly licensed data. This approach caters to filmmakers who want to steer clear of potential legal issues related to AI-generated content resembling copyrighted material.

Independent filmmaker Ángel Manuel Soto praises Marey for democratizing access to top AI storytelling tools. Soto, who hails from Puerto Rico, highlights that traditional filmmaking often required significant financial resources, making it challenging for many aspiring filmmakers to pursue their dreams. Marey has enabled Soto to reduce production costs by 20% to 40% and work more freely.

Moonvalley’s CEO, Naeem Talukdar, showcased Marey’s capabilities in pre- and post-production, demonstrating how it can be used to test scenes before shooting or adjust camera angles afterward. Marey excels in controlling objects, characters, motion, and scene composition. Talukdar envisions Marey evolving to support interactive storytelling, leveraging its understanding of the physical world.

One of Marey’s standout features is its support for free camera motion. Users can manipulate camera trajectories with ease, enabling dynamic shifts in perspective. Marey also allows for background changes in videos, empowering filmmakers to craft their desired scenes. Moonvalley plans to introduce new controls like lighting, deep object trajectories, and character libraries in the coming months.

Marey’s public release positions it in competition with other AI video generators like Runway Gen-3, Luma Dream Machine, Pika, and Haiper. With Marey’s innovative approach and user-friendly features, filmmakers have access to cutting-edge tools that enhance their creative process.

In conclusion, Moonvalley’s Marey model is revolutionizing the filmmaking industry by offering a unique blend of control, creativity, and accessibility. As the platform continues to evolve and introduce new features, filmmakers can look forward to pushing the boundaries of storytelling with AI technology.
