Health New Zealand has reported three confirmed cases of measles in the Wairarapa region. Dr. Annette Nesdale, the Medical Officer of Health in Greater Wellington, stated that the infected individuals had contracted the virus while traveling overseas and were not contagious on their return flight to New Zealand.

Various locations of interest, including a supermarket and a library in Wairarapa, have been identified. Measles is a highly contagious disease that can impact individuals of all ages. Health NZ confirmed that the infected individuals and their close contacts are currently isolating to prevent further transmission.

One of the affected individuals visited Pak’n Save Masterton and Carterton Library on specific dates while infectious. Health New Zealand advised anyone who visited these locations during the specified times to monitor themselves for symptoms such as high fever, cough, runny nose, sore red eyes, and a characteristic rash that spreads from the face to the body.

Health NZ also recommended that individuals who recently returned from overseas watch for measles symptoms and emphasized the importance of receiving two doses of the Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) vaccine for protection against measles.

Dr. Nesdale highlighted the significance of checking immunity to measles for individuals and their families in light of the recent cases. This serves as a timely reminder for everyone to prioritize their health and well-being.
