Netflix Renews “Virgin River” for Eighth Season
Netflix has announced that the popular series “Virgin River” has been renewed for an eighth season, even before Season 7 has a premiere date. This early renewal comes as no surprise, as the show has consistently garnered strong viewership since its debut in 2019. The sixth season of “Virgin River” spent four weeks on the Netflix Top 10 list, reaching a peak of 9.2 million views in its second week.
Based on Robyn Carr’s book series of the same name, “Virgin River” follows the story of Mel Monroe, played by Alexandra Breckenridge, who moves to the remote town of Virgin River in Northern California to start anew. There, she meets and falls in love with former Marine and local bartender Jack Sheridan, portrayed by Martin Henderson. Season 6 culminated in Mel and Jack’s wedding, while also delving into secrets from Mel’s father’s past in Virgin River during the 1970s. The season also marked Henderson’s directorial debut with the episode “Going Overboard.”
In addition to Breckenridge and Henderson, the series features a talented ensemble cast including Colin Lawrence, Jenny Cooper, Lauren Hammersley, Annette O’Toole, Tim Matheson, Benjamin Hollingsworth, Grayson Gurnsey, Sarah Dugdale, Zibby Allen, and Marco Grazzini.
“Virgin River” was developed for television by Sue Tenney, who co-showruns the series with Patrick Sean Smith. The executive producers include Tenney, Smith, Carr, Amy Palmer Robertson, Roma Roth, Christopher E. Perry, Erin Cardillo, and Richard Keith.
With the renewal of “Virgin River” for an eighth season, fans can look forward to more heartwarming and dramatic moments in the picturesque setting of Virgin River. Stay tuned for updates on the premiere date of Season 7 and the continuation of Mel and Jack’s story.
