U.S. Customs Duty Collections Surpass $100 Billion Amid Trump’s Tariff Strategy

In a historic milestone, U.S. customs duty collections have exceeded the $100 billion mark for the first time ever, largely attributed to President Trump’s tariff policies, which have proven to be a lucrative source of revenue for the country.

Recent budget reports indicate that tariff revenues, as a portion of federal income, have more than doubled. This marks a remarkable turnaround from a $71 billion deficit recorded in June 2024 under President Biden’s administration.

As reported by , Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced in a recent cabinet meeting that the U.S. is projected to collect over $100 billion in tariff revenue this year, with estimates suggesting a potential total of “well over” $300 billion by year-end.

This surge in revenue coincides with President Trump’s newly imposed tariffs on a range of countries, including a hefty 30% tariff on imports from Mexico and the European Union recently enacted on Friday.

During a meeting with African leaders on Wednesday, President Trump remarked to OANN correspondent Daniel Baldwin, “We’re taking in hundreds of billions of dollars, money that we’ve never seen before.”

According to Reuters:

U.S. customs duty collections saw a notable increase in June as President Trump’s tariffs gained momentum, surpassing $100 billion for the first time in a fiscal year, which contributed to an unexpected $27 billion budget surplus for the month, as reported by the Treasury Department on Friday.

The budget data highlights that tariffs are becoming a significant revenue contributor for the federal government, with June customs duties recording new highs, quadrupling to $27.2 billion on a gross basis and $26.6 billion on a net basis after refunds.

For the first nine months of fiscal 2025, customs revenues reached record highs of $113.3 billion on a gross basis and $108 billion on a net basis, nearly double the collections from the previous year. The government’s fiscal year concludes on September 30.

These results indicate that tariffs have solidified their position as the fourth-largest source of revenue for the federal government, following individual withheld receipts at $2.683 trillion, non-withheld individual receipts at $965 billion, and corporate taxes at $392 billion.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent emphasized the budget surplus on Friday, labeling it “another promise kept.”

He stated on X, “As President Trump diligently works to reclaim our nation’s economic sovereignty, today’s Monthly Treasury Statement is showcasing record customs duties – and all this without inflation!”
