UC Berkeley business professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski was tragically shot and killed by a masked gunman in broad daylight while in Greece for a custody hearing. The 43-year-old professor was shot five times in the chest and neck at close range near his ex-wife’s home in a suburb of Athens on July 4th. Despite the efforts to save him, Jeziorski succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

The suspect, described as a tall man with an athletic build, fled on foot and remains at large. Authorities in Greece are actively investigating the murder of Jeziorski as his family and colleagues mourn his untimely death.

Jeziorski, a professor at UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business for 8 years, was in Greece to attend a child custody hearing for his two children. His brother, Lukasz Jeziorski, expressed the family’s heartbreak and commitment to seeking justice for Przemyslaw. A crowdfunding page has been set up to assist with legal fees, repatriation of his remains to Poland, and related expenses.

In response to the tragedy, Berkeley Haas Dean Jennifer Chatman released a statement honoring Jeziorski as a beloved member of the faculty and community. Colleagues described him as an outstanding scholar with a passion for teaching and research in marketing science, industrial organization, and data analytics. Jeziorski’s influence extended beyond academia, as he was remembered for his energetic presence, optimism, and willingness to help others.

Before joining UC Berkeley, Jeziorski had an impressive academic background, having studied at prestigious institutions such as the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, the University of Arizona, the University of Chicago, and Stanford University. He also taught at Johns Hopkins University and worked as a research intern at Microsoft.

Jeziorski’s research focused on quantitative marketing, industrial organization, antitrust and regulation, digital marketing, and financial technology. His work has been published in renowned academic journals, solidifying his reputation as a leading scholar in the field.

The tragic loss of Przemyslaw Jeziorski has deeply impacted the UC Berkeley community and the academic world at large. His legacy as a dedicated educator and prolific researcher will continue to inspire future generations in the field of marketing science.
