A 23-year-old man, Giovanni Ramirez, has been detained for allegedly firing seven shots into another car during a daytime road rage incident on the Stevenson Expressway. The incident occurred on July 2nd near Ashland Avenue and was witnessed by an off-duty police detective.

Ramirez was a backseat passenger in a vehicle traveling inbound on the Stevenson when an altercation broke out with another driver. According to prosecutors, Ramirez pulled out a gun and fired about seven rounds into the other car, hitting it four times. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

The off-duty police detective who witnessed the incident provided authorities with a license plate number, which led to Ramirez’s identification as the shooter. Other occupants of Ramirez’s vehicle also confirmed his involvement in the shooting. Ramirez later admitted to firing the gun and surrendered the weapon to police.

Following his confession, Judge James Murphy III ordered Ramirez to be held in custody. This is Ramirez’s first arrest in Illinois, and he is now facing charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm toward an occupied vehicle.
