Jeremy Zaloun, a man with a notorious criminal history involving burglary convictions and a peculiar involvement in a high-profile murder trial, finds himself in legal trouble once again. This time, he is accused of burglarizing mailrooms across downtown Chicago while already on pretrial release for similar offenses.

In 2018, Zaloun made headlines when he was apprehended breaking into a Lakeview apartment building’s mailroom. Subsequently, he pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary and was sentenced to two years of probation.

In a bizarre turn of events in 2021, Zaloun emerged as a key witness in a sensational murder case in River North. In this case, a Northwestern University professor was accused of brutally stabbing his much younger boyfriend 70 times during a bondage scenario. Zaloun, who had encountered the professor on Grindr in the past, testified about narrowly escaping a violent encounter with him by brandishing a gun and fleeing the scene.

Despite Zaloun’s testimony, the professor’s conviction was overturned, and he awaits a new trial. Meanwhile, Zaloun’s legal troubles have escalated, with him facing 11 new burglary charges for allegedly targeting various mailrooms while on pretrial release for a similar offense in November 2023.

One of Zaloun’s recent arrests occurred in the early hours of June 12, where he was caught rifling through mailboxes in the 100 block of West Adams. Subsequently, police found him in a vacant apartment filled with stolen mail, items, and a U.S. Postal Service master key. Zaloun claimed he was there to “see a friend,” but the evidence suggested otherwise.

The locations where Zaloun is accused of burglarizing mailrooms include the 1400 block of North Wells, 200 block of North Columbus, 200 block of North Desplaines, 100 block of West Adams, 700 block of West Jackson, 300 block of North Michigan, and 2300 block of North Damen. Additionally, he faces a charge of stealing film equipment worth $28,145 from the first block of West Hubbard.

With a total of 12 burglary charges and one count of felony theft, Zaloun is currently held in Cook County Jail for violating the terms of his pretrial release. His criminal escapades continue to unfold, adding to his already colorful and tumultuous past.
