A 19-Year-Old Man Charged in Connection with Series of Armed Robberies in Chicago
A 19-year-old man who was on probation for possessing a firearm on the CTA has been arrested and charged in connection with a string of armed robberies that occurred in Lakeview, Old Town, and Edgewater on May 18, according to Chicago police.
Identified as Tsion Adams, a resident of the 6100 block of South Kimbark Avenue, he was taken into custody on Monday in the 700 block of East 111th Street. Authorities believe Adams, along with another individual, was responsible for carrying out multiple gunpoint robberies while driving a white car.
Adams now faces multiple felony charges, including three counts of armed robbery with a firearm and one count of attempted armed robbery, as stated in a police report released on Tuesday.
The first robbery took place around 1 a.m. in the 1200 block of West Roscoe Street, where a 22-year-old man was held at gunpoint and robbed by two individuals. The victim managed to seek refuge in a nearby gangway and reported the incident to the authorities.
Shortly after, a 25-year-old woman was robbed near her residence in the 1100 block of West Grace Street. She recounted being accosted by two men, one of whom was wearing a ski mask, and forced to surrender her belongings before they fled in a white vehicle.
Another incident occurred at 1:30 a.m. when a 22-year-old woman was robbed in the 1200 block of North Sedgwick Street. Approximately an hour later, a 39-year-old woman fell victim to a robbery in the 1000 block of West Berwyn Avenue. Details regarding these incidents are currently limited.
Court records reveal that Adams was previously sentenced to two years of probation for being a first-time weapon offender in February after being caught with a firearm at the Roosevelt CTA station. Since then, he has been arrested three more times, including the recent robbery charges and two misdemeanor offenses last month. Additionally, Adams failed to appear in court for one of the misdemeanor cases on June 27, prompting a reminder from the judge.
Adams was scheduled to appear for a detention hearing at 26th and California on Tuesday.
