Poll: Are you disappointed to see Westpac close its Ferrymead branch?
SHARE

Residents of Ferrymead are feeling abandoned by Westpac after the announcement of the branch closure on August 8. Among the affected customers are Graham and Nancy Wilson, both 77, who have been loyal patrons for three decades.

Graham, who suffers from arthritis, expressed his disappointment, stating, “It means I’ve got to go a lot further to go to a bank.” The closure hits hard for many elderly customers like Graham and Nancy, who rely on face-to-face interactions with tellers.

Despite the growing trend of online banking, some customers, like Pam Capaldi, 81, prefer the traditional banking experience. Pam, who does not drive, finds it convenient to bank in Ferrymead and is saddened by the limited options for in-person banking.

With the closure looming, Pam will have to rely on public transportation to access the nearest Westpac branch in Barrington. Her son, David Capaldi, highlighted the challenges faced by elderly customers in adapting to digital banking and the impact of branch closures on their daily lives.

Customers affected by the closure will have their accounts transferred to Westpac The Palms branch, located at 20‑22 Marshland Rd, Shirley.
