Beirut:

Hezbollah confirmed the death of a commander, following reports from the Israeli army claiming his elimination in a strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs. The Lebanese authorities reported six casualties from the attack.

In an official statement, the Iran-backed group identified the deceased as “commander Ibrahim Mohammed Kobeissi”, described as “martyred on the road to Jerusalem”, a term used by Hezbollah to honor fighters killed by Israeli airstrikes.

Israel’s military announced on Tuesday that they had “eliminated Ibrahim Mohammed Kobeissi, the commander of the missile and rocket network of the Hezbollah terrorist organization”.

The health ministry of Lebanon confirmed that the Israeli raid in Ghobeiri, Beirut’s southern suburbs, resulted in six fatalities and 15 injuries.

The Israeli army stated that Kobeissi led various rocket units, including a precision-guided missile unit, and was targeted alongside other Hezbollah missile and rocket force commanders.

“Kobeissi possessed valuable knowledge in the missile field and had close connections with senior Hezbollah military leaders,” the Israeli military disclosed.

Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, Israeli military spokesperson, mentioned that “at least two” other commanders from Kobeissi’s unit were also “eliminated”.

Following a separate “targeted strike” on Beirut’s southern suburbs the previous day, Hezbollah confirmed that Ali Karake, their third-in-command, was unharmed and had relocated to a secure location.

Escalating tensions between Hezbollah and Israel, with near-daily cross-border exchanges, have intensified since the Gaza conflict erupted last October, sparking concerns of a full-blown war.
