Julian McMahon’s Final Days in Clearwater Raise Questions
Nearly all of downtown’s real estate in Clearwater, Florida is owned by the Church of Scientology or its affiliates. The recent passing of actor Julian McMahon in Clearwater has sparked speculation about his possible ties to the controversial religious organization.
“I was wondering if Julian McMahon was a Scientologist since he died in Clearwater,” one local wrote on Instagram. “Why else would he live the last few months of his life there?” another posted on Twitter.
Despite the online rumors, there is no public record linking McMahon, his wife Paniagua, daughter Madison, or ex-wife Brooke Burns to the Church of Scientology. A search of Scientology databases yielded no connection, and neither McMahon nor his family ever publicly discussed their religious affiliations.
The choice of location for McMahon’s final days has raised eyebrows among the public. “People don’t just end up in Clearwater by chance,” said a source. “You go there for the beach, to retire — or because of Scientology. And Julian wasn’t at retirement age.”
McMahon and his wife had previously sold their properties in Malibu and Ventura County, California. Their 4.4-acre avocado and lemon ranch in Somis was listed and sold in 2023. Following the sale, the couple had no publicly listed permanent addresses aside from a contact for a celebrity accountant in Encino, California.
While the reasons behind McMahon’s choice to spend his final days in Clearwater remain unknown, the speculation surrounding his potential ties to Scientology continues to circulate online.
