‘Get Out’ (2017)

Rotten Tomatoes rank: 98 percent

At the top of the list is Get Out, the directorial debut of Jordan Peele that took the world by storm in 2017. The film follows Chris Washington (Daniel Kaluuya), a Black man who visits his white girlfriend Rose Armitage’s (Allison Williams) family estate for the weekend. What starts off as an awkward and uncomfortable visit quickly spirals into a horrifying series of events as Chris uncovers the dark secrets of the Armitage family.

Get Out is a masterclass in blending horror with social commentary, tackling themes of racism, privilege, and cultural appropriation in a chilling and thought-provoking way. The film received critical acclaim for its writing, direction, and performances, particularly Kaluuya’s powerful portrayal of Chris.

With a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 98 percent, Get Out solidified Peele as a major player in the horror genre and sparked important conversations about race and representation in Hollywood.

Get Out is available to rent or buy on Prime Video.

Whether you prefer slashers, supernatural thrillers, or psychological horror, there’s something for every horror fan to enjoy in the summer months. So grab some popcorn, turn off the lights, and get ready to be scared senseless by these top-rated horror movies.

Stephen King’s iconic novel “It” has been brought to life on the big screen in the 2017 adaptation directed by Andy Muschietti. This horror film has received critical acclaim, currently holding an impressive 85 percent ranking on Rotten Tomatoes.

Muschietti’s take on the story updates the setting to the summer of 1989, adding a nostalgic touch to the film. The casting choices for the young actors in the film are spot-on, with standout performances from Finn Wolfhard of “Stranger Things” fame and Sophia Lillis from “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.”

One of the most memorable aspects of the film is Bill Skarsgård’s portrayal of Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Skarsgård brings a chilling and unsettling energy to the character, making Pennywise a truly terrifying presence on screen. After the tragic death of his younger brother Georgie at the hands of Pennywise, Bill Denbrough, played by Jaeden Lieberher, and his friends band together to stop the malevolent entity from harming any more children. However, they soon realize that their quest to destroy Pennywise may come at a great cost.

For fans looking to experience the scares of “It” once again, the film is available for streaming on HBO Max. With its gripping storyline, talented cast, and eerie atmosphere, “It” is a must-watch for horror enthusiasts and fans of Stephen King’s work alike.
